Redefining the Game: Athletics, Ability, Achievement The Redefining the Game exhibit was developed in 2014 by the National Museum of Health and Medicine Chicago and BACKBONES, a spinal cord injury peer-support and advocacy group. It is the second in a series of three exhibits curated by the two organizations. The first exhibit - Reinventing the Wheel - opened in 2013, and the third - TechAbility - will open in September 2015. Additional contributors to this project included students in Adler University's Community Service Practicum and students from the University of Illinois at Chicago's Biomedical Visualization program. Redefining the Game showcases nine traditional and adaptive sports and features interviews with local athletes of all ability levels. Parallels between the traditional sport and adaptive sport are highlighted. This collection of interviews serves to educate our community about the variety of adaptive sports in the area and to celebrate the skill, athleticism and dedication of Chicago athletes. Please view the online exhibit to learn more about this project.
